Eleanor Traubman Tutoring is a Brooklyn-based tutoring service for grades 3-5. I help young people become more joyful, confident readers and writers. I work from the belief that the way children are taught to read and write affects how they feel about and perform these activities.
By reading and writing on a regular basis about things that are meaningful to them, children can experience more ease with literacy in a school setting.
The Process
I start with a conversation with you, the parent, to find out about your child. What are their strengths and struggles? What kinds of things do they love to do outside of school? What is their learning and social style? What kinds of books do they like to read? I take all these things into consideration when I design the tutoring session.
I customize sessions to reflect your child’s interests and build on their strengths. I want each child to feel excited about and in charge of their own reading and writing, and to associate reading and writing with joy and pleasure.
I often invite children to choose books to bring to sessions so that we can read aloud together. I also help your child build a portfolio of both fiction and nonfiction writing, and I incorporate games which allow them to build on word recognition and vocabulary development.
